Politico: 2D Sim city-like OUYA game

I used to be absolutely obsessed with Sim City. I’m also a huge fan of Civilization. So when I heard that 19-year old Josh Siegl was working on a 2D Sim City-like game for OUYA, I initially had two thoughts run through my head:

  1. I can’t wait to test this game out
  2. How awesome is it that a 19-year old indie developer can create a game, on his own, that will be available for the launch of a new console?

Keep both of those in mind as you watch the below video:

The game is currently on Steam GreenLight, but Josh fully intends to doa complete port to OUYA. Whether or not it will be available for the launch of the console remains to be seen, but we’re hoping it is.

The game itself looks promising. Obviously the graphics aren’t going to blow you away, but this game isn’t about graphics. It’s about gameplay and strategy and building you empire, something that is just as, if not more enjoyable, in the classic 2D realm overview as in the over-animated cinema-type games seen today, where they look cool, but the games suck. One tiny gameplay feature that looks neat is the newspapers that pop up on the right hand side as events occur in your world/island.

As Josh explains in his video, Politico is his entrance into the world of gaming development and it looks like he has worked really hard on the game. For a first effort, this is looking pretty darn good. So support Josh by liking the video, sharing this article, and offering your ideas, suggestions, opinions, and support in the comments below.
