A new update for DayZ has added the ability for server hosts to monetize their servers, which means access can be restricted only to people who pay to use the server. All monetized servers must be approved by Bohemia Interactive. Aside from charging people for access to the server, the new monetization scheme also allows server owners to charge for in-game advertising and in-game items. The slippery slope there is that items sold for money must not affect gameplay in any way. This is not the first time Bohemia Interactive has experimented with monetizing servers, as they granted the ability to ArmA 3 owners earlier this year.
